The rising price of the US Dollar is affecting shoppers in Western Equatoria State who have to pay more for fewer goods.

Anisa FM talked to Salah Anthony, who heads the State Chamber of Commerce, and some traders about high prices in Yambio market.

Mr Salah said it was true that things were very expensive due to the high exchange rate, but the Government was looking into ways to solve the issue.

He urged citizens to farm, because when there is more goods in the market prices go down.

Chandiru Margret, a business woman from Uganda who sells food and vegetables, said due to the high exchange rate she is unable to import fresh vegetables.

Ms Chandiru requested the Government to control the exchange rate between the South Sudanese Pound and the US Dollar for prices to come down.

Retailer Monica Rudolf said wholesale traders sell rice, maize flour and beans at high prices.

Ms Monica explained that one basin of beans costs 150 pounds and she is able to make a profit of only five pounds.

She added that she is a single mother and it is very difficult to manage her family with such high prices that don’t allow her to make a good profit.

Buyer Grace William said it was difficulty to feed her family because the money her husband gave is not enough to buy the food she needs.

Mama Grace urged local sellers to reduce prices of greens and other local things because local products have no connection with the US Dollar.
