More than 20 students on Thursday concluded a one-year certificate training in solar and electricity installation and basic construction, water and sanitation in Rumbek.

The training was conducted in St. Peter Claver Ecological Training Centre in Rumbek, Lakes state.

Director George Kimongi told Good News Radio that 12 students successfully completed a course in solar and electricity while eight graduating with certificates in basic construction, water and sanitation.

He said the technical students are expected to help their communities in electricity installation and maintenance.

Fr Kimongi added that the students can also build and maintain water pumps, the only sources of clean water for the communities in Rumbek.

He disclosed that the Ecological Training Centre has invested in special incentives to attract female trainees for the program, such as waiving fees for women, but only one lady was enrolled.

Fr Kimongi said that women can also undertake duties such as roofing among others that are male dominated.

Graduate David Lueth Matueny, who took a course in solar and electricity, expressed confidence that he will secure a job with the newly launched Rumbek Power Station.

He added that his technical skills in solar and electricity can make him self-reliant.

William Muolana Deng thanked the administration of St. Peter Claver Ecological Training Centre for the skills he acquired and challenged the youth to stop wasting time and join the training.

He urged youth to enrol for this year’s intake which is set to begin in August.

St Peter Claver Ecological Training Centre in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek is run by the Jesuit and admits students who have completed primary school and above at a fee of 300 pounds for the whole course.
