Higher Education Minister said the proposed Saint Mary University does not meet education standard but can operate as college under the ministry.

Minister Peter Adwok Nyaba said St Mary University has potentials to become a full university in future.

He added that its current status with only three colleges, one PhD holder and 60 students does not qualify as university.

Dr Adwok advised the head of the St Mary University to start the process of registering the institution as a college under the ministry of higher education.

Fr Alfred Ladu is St Mary’s Vice Chancellor. He acknowledged that his institution does not meet the international standards but has high potential to do so.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba said the Catholic Church stands with the government to stop offering commercial certificates to students that in turn will not manage government institutions to deliver service to the people.

He said he appreciated the government’s effort to improve the quality of education in the country.
