Some 15 bishops from the Catholic and Episcopal Church of Sudan are starting Wednesday a three-day meeting in Yei to strengthen the ecumenical relationship between the two Churches in South Sudan.

Ugandan born Archbishop John Sentamu of York, England, the second most senior Anglican bishop in the world, will attend the meeting.

John Ashworth, an advisor to the Catholic bishops, told CRN that after the war both Churches concentrated in their own rebuilding and the time has come for them to strengthen ecumenical ties to work together since they are close to one another.

Mr Ashworth said two South Africans – a layman who headed the Justice and Peace Commission and the parish priest of Pretoria’s Cathedral √ɬê are facilitating the ecumenical meeting between Catholic and ECS bishops.
