The National Legislative Assembly in today’s sitting passed the Petroleum Bill 2012 from the second to the third reading for further scrutiny.

The head of the committee of energy, mining and industry Henry Dilah Odwar presented the report to MPs.

Mr Dilah said the committee considered all the concerns presented by MPs during the first reading and made the appropriate revisions.

He added that the committee conducted extensive consultation and held a workshop on the bill following the Conduct of Business of the National Legislative Assembly.

Mr Dilah said the bill is very important and the members have to deliberate thoroughly before the committee makes the third and final reading.

MP Debora Ajok Garang from Pariang County in Unity State praised the work done by the committee.

She moved a motion to conclude the debate and pass the Bill with amendments and recommendations to the third reading.

The motion was seconded and the deputy speaker Daniel Awet Deng Akot sent the Petroleum Bill 2012 for a third and final reading.

He asked the Committee to bring the Bill back to the plenary after one week.
