Lakes State authorities were lauded for the legal mechanisms put in place to protect the girls at school.

Project officer for Gender and Civil Society with the Skills for South Sudan, Dolly Anek, told Good News Radio that she was very happy with the laws put in place by the state government to protect school girls.

She explained that her organization together with UNIFEM assisted the government to pass a law punishing boys who impregnate school girls.

Skills for South Sudan Program Manager Monica Emiru Enyou said marriage was important but it could be postponed until the girls got an education.

She urged parents to support and encourage their children attending school to motivate them instead of pushing them into early marriage.

The two officials made these statements in Wulu during a workshop on Life Skills attended by over 50 girls from schools in the county.

Skills for South Sudan is a 17-year old NGO established to develop leadership and management skills of individuals in public service, civil society and the private sector for the development of South Sudan.
