The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement is under threat from other political parties and needs a rescue operation not to lose popular support.

The alert comes from Lakes State Deputy Governor and Minister for Education Daniel Ayual Makoi, Good News Radio reported.

The deputy governor, a SPLM veteran, called for an urgent rescue through restructuring and political orientation.

Mr Ayual appealed to the MPs not to underestimate the value of war veterans, widows and orphans and other underprivileged groups.

He said the independence of the nation came through the sacrifices of those groups and they are the lifeline of the country’s stability and development.

Mr Ayual added that war veterans have to have their rights recognised and they should take part in the government.

The warning comes ahead of the SPLM National Liberation Council meeting in Juba and the much anticipated Lakes State government’s reshuffle that is already creating speculations and tensions within the party.
