Women from the Catholic Mission of Mapuordit in Rumbek Diocese planned to celebrate their international day in style and their male partners volunteered to do the cooking.
Rita Grunke, who ministers among women in Mapuordit, Lakes State, told Good News Radio yesterday that the celebration would be done done under the Dinka motto Piir Yam, meaning New Life.She said women planned to celebrate the theme “The woman is the heart of a family.”
Sr Rita added that young mothers and the elderly would meet with the group of those who had suffered from leprosy and who have happily integrated in the community.
She shared the excitement of Mapuordit women in their preparations for their international day.
She said the t-shirts and kitangas were ready and the celebration included a long procession thought the village.
Sr Rita explained that the Women’s Day celebration will conclude on Sunday with sports, cultural dances, dramas and speeches together with the Mass.
She revealed that men volunteered to do all the cooking on Sunday giving women the liberty to celebrate their day, a real breakthrough in Dinka culture influenced by some foreigners living in the village.
Sr Rita said the women group she leads is designing ways of engaging community members in sustained peace, including dialogue on delicate issues around gender questions.
She encouraged South Sudanese communities to give women their due respect as the heart of the families.
Sr Rita described women as very special gifts of God and central to society.
