Tonj South County has started training 200 police officers selected within the community to protect lives and properties.
Tonj South County Commissioner Akec Tong Aleu said his county is training locals as community police officers to guard civilians and cattle, and maintain security, Radio Don Bosco reported.He added that the candidates have spent 21 days in the field and the training takes 45 days.
Commissioner Tong stated that the community police force will be under the County Police headquarters.
He added the 200 trainees are the first batch of a 1,000-strong community police.
