A Lakes State female official has appealed to the Government to ensure that the rights of women enshrined in the State Transitional Constitution are respected.

Adak Costa Mapour is Lakes State’s Advisor for Gender and Human Rights. She said during the signing of Lakes State Transitional Constitution on Saturday that she was aware of the fact that women’s rights were enshrined in new Charter.

She called on the government to prepare laws to safeguard the little rights of women, arguing that they need other protection besides their kinsmen’s in the traditional setup.

Ms Adak appealed to donor agencies to support constitutional and human rights awareness programs.

She said women who have borne the brunt of discriminatory social and cultural norms should be saved from such an archaic and unwanted situation.

Lakes State Deputy Governor Daniel Ayuol Makoi appreciated the role of women in the community and their generosity towards all.

Ms Adak advocated for gender equity, arguing that time has come for women to enjoy the natural resources the way men do, including education opportunities for girls.
