The various media outlets in South Sudan are facing the same challenges of the old Sudan.

Juba Monitor editor in chief Alfred Taban Lo Gune said today in Juba that South Sudanese journalists were struggling in Khartoum for the liberation of South Sudan through the media.

He added that the journalists played an important role in the independence of South Sudan.

Mr Taban said he was glad that South Sudan was now free but the media still faces similar challenges to those of the past.

He added that ignorance, disease and corruption are new the areas the media has to liberate in South Sudan.

Mr Taban made these statements during the celebration of Al Masier Arabic daily newspaper’s first year.

Al Masier today celebrated one full year of publication in Juba with a rally at Nyakuron Cultural Centre under the theme “Free press and cohesive internal front.”
