The media bills did not reach the parliament and are somewhere in the ministries.
Joy Kwaje Elisau, who chairs the information committee at the National Legislative Assembly, said MPs did not refuse to pass the media bills because they did not reach the House yet.She said in 2009 when the bills were brought to the Assembly, they passed the first reading and the committee was to work on the texts because some members from the media asked for some corrections before the second reading.
Ms Kwaje said the media bills were withdrawn from the Parliament and have been moving between the Council of Ministers and the ministries of justice and information.
She added that at the moment the parliament is using the old law to protect the media and other people.
Ms Kwaje made these statements yesterday during a meeting with the media houses to overcome some tension after an incident between a Bakhita Radio reporter and the security.
