The body of the Ugandan trader murdered during the early hours of Wednesday morning has been taken his home in Mkono District of Uganda.
Henry Muchibe, 27, was shot several times by a drunken soldier who was accompanied by two other colleagues. The Commissioner of Rumbek Central County, Matur Majok Magol, confirmed the arrest of the culprits together with one of the two other accomplices, revealing that the fugitive soldiers had been drinking the whole night and that the main culprit was still drunk at the time of his arrest.
He revealed that the deceased died after arriving at Rumbek State Hospital.
Mr Majok explained that the drunken soldier asked for money from the Ugandan trader.
Unfortunately the trader said he did not have money but offered him a chair to take and sell out for little money.
The soldier opened fire at the trader.
Mr Majok described the incident as a criminal act.
He reassured residents of Rumbek of security, explaining that the Military Police will help implement the order issued by the State Governor banning guns within seven kilometres of Rumbek.
The commissioner appealed to the Ugandan community to be patient with the local government, maintaining that the incident was a personal criminal act and that it was the first of its kind since the celebration of Independence last July.
The Chairman of the Ugandan community in Lakes State, Charles Tambara, told Good News Radio that the slain body left Rumbek for Uganda by road on Wednesday mid-night.
He decried the lack of justice and fairness with the State Judiciary and pointed out that last year another Ugandan trader was killed in cold blood but the case still pending in the high court.
Mr Tambara said the police perform their duties well by apprehending culprits but the judiciary has shown laxity in dealing with the apprehended criminals.
Members of the Ugandan community were joined by their colleagues from other countries in a demonstration on Wednesday, carrying the slain body through the streets of Rumbek.
