Twenty three Police and Prison officers from the Yei and Morobo County concluded a two-day training on basic principles of human rights.
The training was organized by South Sudan Law Society and funded by the Catholic organisation Relief Development Aid.Guya Daniel, the Yei office manager of South Sudan Law Society, told Radio Easter that the Police and prison officers belong to rule of law institutions who protect people’s lives and property and need to learn how to handle people.
He added that the officers need to know the rights of those convicted.
Mr Guya said the training was very important for the prison and police officers to learn how to handle people in a proper way that respects their rights.
He added that prisoners have the right to access health and other basic needs.
Mr Guya said the police and prison officers have to handle human beings properly and with care in order to respect the law and develop the country.
Some trainees said they learned many useful things including gender based violence and how to treat prisoners properly.
Mr Guya appealed to the communities to cooperate with law enforcing agents and respect human rights.
