The Chairperson of South Sudan Civil Society Alliance said today that the umbrella group will proceed with its own parallel permanent Constitutional process if the President of the Republic failed to listen to its demands.
Civil Society Alliance last week demanded for the inclusion of one of its members in the permanent members of the National Constructional Review Commission and at least another four as part time members.Civil Society Alliance Chairperson David De Dau told CRN News that if President Salva Kiir Mayardit did not listen to their demands they will go ahead with their own Constitutional Process and later subject the two Constitutions for a referendum.
He added that the civil society in South Sudan is not afraid and cannot be threatened by any force because the government belong to the people.
Mr Dau added that the government must accept the views of the majority of South Sudanese and accept including of all voices, adding that if the government pays attention to these principles it earns respect.
He accused the Justice Minister, John Luk, and Presidential Legal Advisor Tilal Ring of setting up the commission, naming their friends and deciding who should be included without adequate consultation with the civil society and other stakeholders as required by the South Sudan Transitional Constitution 2012.
Mr Dau said the Constitutional Review Commission was formed after closed door meetings between the justice minister and presidential legal advisor.
Mr Dau added that the civil society is in contact already with South Sudanese communities in the diaspora and about 60 South Sudanese run NGOs in America, Australia and Europe to start the constitutional making process with their support and expertise.
