The national minister for roads and bridges said today in the weekly media forum that the escalating insecurity in the country is fuelled by inaccessibility of some areas by land in Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria States.

Minister Gier Chuang Aluong said lack of road network poses a huge threat to the internal security of South Sudan.

He added the his ministry has a ten-year plan to connect the ten states of South Sudan down to payams and regional roads to boost trade with the neighbouring countries.

Mr Chuang said his ministry is moving to the field to supervise the work on the roads and bridges construction to ensure work is done properly.

He added that the next media briefing will actually be done in the field not in the air conditioned conference hall.

He said his young and energetic team is ready to stay on the road and that his ministry is going to review the staff to keep those with capacity and doing their job well and throw away those proved incapable.

Mr Chuang promised to clean his ministry of people who are kept there but cannot do anything arguing that they impede service delivery.

The minister also decried the misappropriation of funds for a particular road projects and lack of proper supervision from his predecessors.
