The Catholic Assistant Bishop of Juba has expressed concern about bad relations between the Catholic Church and the Kator community over land ownership issues.

Bishop Santo Loku Pio told churchgoers on Saturday that the communities took the Church to court over some land ownership issues in Juba’s Kator residential area, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said the Church owned the land in Kator since 1925 but now members of the community are claiming it.

Bishop Loku wondered whether the faithful needed the presence of the Church in Juba or wanted to serve the Devil.

He added that it was not fair to take the church to court over land issues, saying a peaceful settlement would be better.

Bishop Loku said the land of the Church does not belong to the bishop or his priests.

He revealed that the concerns of the Church are just those of schools and hospitals among others.

Bishop Loku called for a peaceful solution of any difference between the Church and the community arising from land ownership disputes.
