The Minister of Social Development in Lakes State urged the youth to respect the religious and priests working in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek, maintaining that threatening missionaries and expat volunteers with eviction was shameful.
Arkangelo Deng Kuok told Good News Radio during a visit to the station that Christians should not do tribal and national discrimination. He urged the Rumbek-based youth revolting against a section of diocesan institutions and Church personnel to seek God’s intervention through prayer and to apologize to the diocesan authorities for their recent threats to expatriates working in the diocese.
Mr Deng said it was sad that the youth attacked the Catholic radio station in Rumbek on Christmas Eve, adding that it would be shameful for the youth to talk about forgiveness if they were not willing to forgive.
He called on parents and elders to talk to their children, saying that the recent acts by the youth against Church institutions and some personnel were inconsistent with the traditions of the people of Lakes State.
The racist expressions used by the youth and their attack to Good News Radio have been condemned by various community members with expressions of solidarity during this challenging experience.
Good News Radio completes two years of broadcasting on January 24, 2012.
