Eastern Equatoria governor has praises citizens for their peaceful Christmas celebration.

Louis Lobong Lojore said this was the first time that the state experienced a peaceful Christmas without any killing, no raids and theft cases.

He added that Eastern Equatoria state has to show an example of peaceful co-existence to the nation because it represents the origin of the struggle for the freedom of the people of South Sudan

Governor Lobong said he hoped that the New Year celebration also passed peacefully like Christmas.

He appreciated the work and conduct of the security organs to maintain peace in the region and the churches for reaching out to the people in the rural areas.

Mr Lobong stressed that MPs and ministers made positive steps to go to their villages to celebrate Christmas with voters.

Governor Lobong extended his gratitude to the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, for the security of the country.

He added that other states were equally peaceful except Jonglei.

Despite the relative peace in Eastern Equatoria during the Christmas festivities, at least two people were killed in Torit.
