Warrap state authorities have started deploying police officers at insecure places within the state to protect the civilian population from Khartoum militias attacks and to disarm the population.
Warrap state inspector general of police, Major General Andrew Kuol, told Radio Don Bosco that most of the civilian population handed over illegal weapons to the government and the authorities are deploying auxiliary forces to guard them.
Maj. Gen. Kuol said Khartoum is organizing militias and they are very active in Warrap state.
On Tuesday, Khartoum militias attacked Romic, in Tonj East County, and seven people were killed including two policemen.
Maj. Gen. Kuol said Khartoum is trying to destabilize South Sudan.
He added that he dispatched some forces to Tonj East where most of militias’ activities are widespread.
Mr. Kuol said that most of the citizens in Warrap handed over their arms voluntarily to the government adding that forces will also target those who still have rifles and refuse to give them on their own.
