Tonj South community leaders have been through a two-day disaster, risk reduction training to improve security in the county.

Relief coordinator officer of World Vision in Warrap state, Mareng Akol, told Radio Don Bosco that the training targeted payam administrators, women and youth leaders, officials and South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission field supervisors.

He added that the purpose of the training was to teach the community leaders that they can reduce disasters in the county and work in terms of conflict resolution to assist the government in its mission.

Mr. Akol said that his organization invited 25 people including six women but only 21 turned up for the training due to lack of information.

He singled out time management as a main challenge because the training officials had to perform their daily activities in various offices.

Mr. Akol added that some of the trainees didn’t know how to read and write and they had to teach them in various local languages.

One of the trainees, Mama Nyandeng Kuony, the only woman present, said the training was beneficial.

She added that she has already shared some of the ideas after she had left the training with some of her colleagues.
