The Department of Education field coordinator in the Diocese of Rumbek has appealed to the government to contribute to the salaries of teachers at Catholic schools to help reduce school fees.

Robinson Odwon Wani told Good News Radio that teachers of Catholic schools known locally as Comboni schools are paid with the fees that are collected from the pupils and managed by the respective PTA, the Parents and Teachers Association.

He said since the Church complements the government with its schools, the authorities should find a solution for teachers’ salaries before next year in order to bring fees down.

Mr. Odwon said teachers complained about lack of books for the new school programmes introduced in South Sudan and the high number of pupils per teacher in different Comboni schools in Lakes State.

The Department of Education field coordinator in the Diocese of Rumbek made these statements during a three-day workshop organized by his department for principals and head teachers of Comboni schools in Lakes State.
