A rights activist has said that both the media and the security are performing the same role of serving the same community.

International Media Support Project Manager Bridgette Sinn told Good News Radio, during the dialogue forum between media and security personnel that the event aimed at creating a relationship between the two sectors of society.

Ms Sinn noted that there are no clear laws on media’s rights, adding that both the security organs and the media do not know how far they can go while they carry out their day-to-day activities.

She pointed out that journalists have been arrested without warrants, detained under unclear circumstances and released without charges.

Ms Sinn called on the media practitioners, the security organs and the public at large to respect the media.

She added that the public can help the media by choosing which outlets they trust to guide them with more reliable information.

Ms Sinn was speaking during a one-day workshop organized by AMDISS, the Association for Media Development in South Sudan, Norwegian People’s Aid, International Media Support and Union of Journalists of South Sudan.

The workshop brought together journalists from different media houses and the security personnel in Lakes state.
