AIDS COMMISSION WANTS TO SECURE MONEY FROM GLOBAL FUND

The South Sudan Aids Commission, NGOs partners and the representatives from National Health Ministry of have started 5-day retreat in Yei to discuss ways of getting funding to fight the disease.

Yei Area Coordinator for South Sudan Aids Commission Chris Issa Gordon told Radio Easter this morning that there are evidences indicating HIV/AIDS infection increased in South Sudan despite relative access to treatment.

He said there is need to have a proposal that can secure money from the Global Fund in order to maintain the existing services or increase them to reach the common people.

Mr Issa said more than 50 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS are found in Sub Sahara Africa.

He explained that countries like Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Central African Republic, and Djibouti are benefiting from the Global Fund.

He appealed to community based organizations to enhance their capacity in proposal writing to secure fundings.

Mr Issa encouraged South Sudanese to check their HIV status at any VCT centres available in the country.
