The Eastern Equatoria budget for 2011 has been greatly affected by high inflation rates.

Finance, Trade and Commerce Minister Josephine Akulang Abalang said the budget planning was based on 2.63 pounds for one US dollar exchange rates of 2010. Now the rate jumped to 3.65.

Se said this huge inflation has negatively affected the state’s budget to deliver services to the population.

Ms Akulang added that the block transfer from the national government to the state wa not enough to meet so many priorities in education, health and agriculture.

She said she hoped that this time 80 percent of the national budget should be allocated to the sates.

The minister stressed that the state needed more money to embark on mechanized farming to increase production iand reduce soaring inflation in the future.
