More than 18,000 thousand people have been displaced into Unity State by the ongoing fighting in South Kordofan since June and the number could double by the end of the year.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, who disclosed the figure, said it will organize a verification of persons in the coming days to establish the exact number of refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees.

UNOCHA says in its weekly South Sudan Humanitarian Bulletin humanitarian partners are concerned that the number of people arriving to Unity could double before the end of the year if fighting continues in South Kordofan.

Due to security concerns, relief organizations want to relocate the displaced to a site away from the insecure border.
