The residents of Lainya, Yei River and Morobo counties have been urged to protect their forest reserves in order to protect the environment.

Yei River County Assistant Commissioner of Forestry Kennedy Alfred told Easter Radio that the teak trees can be used in roofing, furniture and other things.

He added that people should play a preventive role to protect them.

Mr. Alfred said Indians are using local agents to cut large numbers of trees to sell in Uganda.

He added that they also sell the logs from Yei’s forests in Juba.

He explained that the logging companies get permits from the ministry of forestry in Juba.

Mr Kennedy asked the local community and the Indian companies to replant the areas they cut in order to protect the forest.

He appealed to the state government and the government of South Sudan to develop policies to protect the forest and make it beneficial to the nationals.
