The National Assembly select committee that looked into President Salva Kiir’s speech at the first join national legislature on 8 August noted the message glossed over important issues including top security, youth employment and the state of South Sudan’s economy.
Council of States deputy speaker Remy Oller Itorong headed the committee and presented its report today to a joint sitting of the national legislature.He noted that Mr. Kiir’s speech had some loopholes and failed to meet crucial expectations of people of South Sudan.
He added that the message failed to condemn the atrocities committed by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels.
Mr. Remi added the speech underlined the development but failed to highlighted economic indicators like Gross Domestic Product and inflation rates in the country.
He said the speech did not make any reference about the state of the economy in the last six years.
Mr. Remi added that it was difficult to know whether South’s economy was stagnant or progressing from the President’s speech.
