Eastern Equatoria Parliament is taking the first steps in order to prepare the State Transitional Constitution.

Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi told Emmanuel Radio that the amendment and redrafting process of the State Transitional Constitution started today.

He added that the MPs will adapt the South Sudan Transitional Constitution, signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit during the Proclamation of Independence, to the reality of Eastern Equatoria.

In today’s sitting, MPs will read through the South Sudan Transitional Constitution.

Mr. Ocholimoi said a committee will be tasked with the amendment and redrafting of the State Constitution.

The House had scheduled for yesterday to deliberate on amendments and redrafting the Transitional Business Code of Conduct but it was adjourned due to Islamic feast of Idd El-Fitr, the end of Holy Ramadan.

The speaker explained that the agenda was altered following legal advice that the Transitional Constitutional should be approved before the Business Code of Conduct.
