A cross section of Eastern Equatoria citizens has welcomed the new state flag the local parliament passed last week.

Emmanuel Radio recorded the views of some Torit residents that received the new flag with their thumbs up.

Mr. Ochan Charles, a boda-boda rider from Imurok Payam in Torit County, said he loved the new flag because its colours were very meaningful: the cream stands for sunshine, black for his skin, green for the pastures shared by people and animals, red for blood and the cheetah for the wild life.

Meanwhile, John Isaac Oromo said the new flag and the logo reflect all the resources of the state.

Oduho George Ben preferred a different order for the stripes: black should be on top followed by red and the other colours.

He reasoned that the black stripe represents the people and people have to come first.

MPs last week voted in favour of the flag that has four coloured stripes: cream at the top and bottom to represent natural resources, and black and red in the middle to symbolize the race and the bloodshed during the struggle for freedom.

The MPs also approved the Eastern Equatoria logo: an oval green circle with a moving cheetah at the centre looking sideways as symbol for the nature of Eastern Equatorians who are organized and quick to act.
