Eastern Equatoria is making preparations to give an honourable burial to a Sudanese priest killed in Uganda during the Anyanya One war.

The vicar general of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Fr. Celestino Muras, announced on Sunday that the remains of Fr. Leopold Anywar will be flown on Saturday from Kitgum, in Uganda, to Torit to be reburied on Sunday at a mausoleum built in Magwi County, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Fr. Muras says that all arrangements have been made by both the state government and the Church in coordination to Ugandan authorities.

The Vicar general said that the diocese will celebrate a thanksgiving mass in memory of late hero Fr. Anywar who met his death while bringing support to the displaced by the war.

Fr. Muras explains that the community of Eastern Equatoria state has decided to rebury Fr. Anywar back home in South Sudan before the Independence Day, to honour his memory.

State governor Louis Lobong Lojore had formed a five-men committee tasked it with the responsibility to ensure late Fr. Anywar’s remains were back home before Independence Day.

He said Eastern Equatoria state wanted to honour late Fr. Anywar and other heroes for inspiring others citizens to liberate South Sudan.
