The Catholic Bishop of Rumbek has called on the citizens of the new nation of South Sudan to be servants of peace, justice and the common good.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari made the call on Sunday in his homily during the Eucharistic celebration on the feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus while he ordained a young Dinka man to the diaconate.

Bishop Mazzolari urged the congregation to take up service to ensure the real birth of the new nation.

He said the Republic of South Sudan is not born in the offices of the State House, but only if South Sudanese commit themselves to be servants of peace, justice and the common good.

Bishop Mazzolari also called on the youth of South Sudan to follow God’s call to service in the Church as priests and religious or Christian couples.

Addressing the faithful after his ordination, Deacon Marko Tong described the day as a thanksgiving day.

He appealed to parents to be a source of encouragement to the youth to become leaders in the Church.
