Officials from the US government and the Government of Southern Sudan yesterday joined Western Equatoria authorities to inaugurate the all-weather Ezo-Diabio-Tombura road.

The 182-kilometer highway built by USAID is the first all-weather gravel road in Western Equatoria, Bakhita Radio reported.

The US consul general in Juba, Ambassador Barrie Walkley, said the new road will help farmers to access local markets to sell their produce.

He added that the new road boosts local agriculture and lessen dependence on food from East Africa.

Tombura paramount Chief Mbaribamo Baabe Renzi said the new road improved security in the fight against LRA rebels and economic activities in the county.

He added that the road allowed people of Tombura and Diabio to access medical services.

Physical infrastructure state minister Boutros Magaya said the new highway cuts down on travel time and vehicles’ operating costs.

Mr. Magaya thanked USAID and the American people for the new road.

The all-weather gravel road linking Ezo and Tombura via Diabio cost some 37 million US dollars.
