Church personnel from the Archdiocese of Juba are studying topics from the Second African Synod.

Forty participants started today in Juba a three-day workshop on the Second African Synod theme of reconciliation, peace and justice.

Sr. Cathy Arata from Solidarity with South Sudan organized the event. She told SCR News that meeting will look back on the theme of the Second African Synod, which took place in 2009 in Rome.

She explained that the Synod’s theme was the Church in Africa in the service of Reconciliation, Peace and Justice.

Workshop’s facilitator Fr. Michael McCabe from Tangaza College, in Nairobi √ɬê Kenya, said the theme is huge and it needs the collaboration of all the churches and their members to achieve the reconciliation in the Continent.

He added that Africa is still marred by too many conflicts and there cannot be development without peace and reconciliation.

The Pope is expected to issue as Apostolic Letter on the conclusions of the Second Affrican Synod in November, two years after the assembly took place.
