Rumbek does not have enough primary school teachers to cope with the ever increasing number of pupils.

Isaac Kool Majok heads Abinajok Primary School in the outskirts of Rumbek. He told Good News Radio that his school has only six teachers taking care of over 800 pupils, 484 boys and 360 girls.

He said that the teachers are so overwhelmed by the needs of the pupils that they may have to give up to nine lessons a day.

Mr. Kool appealed to the government to post more teachers to the school and to train teachers.

The headmaster appealed to the government and education partners to construct at least two more classrooms, explaining that up to three groups of pupils have their classes under trees.

Mr. Kool encouraged the local community to be involved in advocating for compulsory schooling for all children.

The academic year 2011 has witnessed an increased number of pupils enrolled in primary schools across Lakes State.
