The European Union announced a donation of 200 million Euros, over 760 million Sudanese pounds, to South Sudan for development.
EU Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs told journalists today after meeting President Salva Kiir Mayardit that the Union is ready to work with the international community to support the growing expectations of South Sudanese.He said he informed Mr. Kiir that the EU has taken a decision to give 200 million Euros to cater for social services and nation building activities.
The European Commissioner underlined that the independence of South Sudan represents a turning point to the new nation and to the whole continent.
He added that the EU supported state building activities in South Sudan.
Mr. Piebalgs concludes tomorrow his visit to Juba.
