The integration of returnees into the communities and reconciliation among Southerners are common concerns of the Catholic Church in South Sudan.
Sr. Catherine Arata, who is the Pastoral Director of Solidarity with South Sudan, told Good News Radio at the end of her two-day visit to Rumbek Diocese, that each Catholic Diocese in South Sudan is making good effort to reach out to returnees and the displaced due to violent conflicts.She said the Church in South Sudan is involved in various reconciliation initiatives.
Sr. Cathy added that the initiative called “101 days of Prayer for a Peaceful Referendum in Sudan” was a success due to the Holy Spirit.
She said people from the whole world took part in the initiative, adding that the global response revealed that prayer unites people.
Sr. Cathy is making a follow-up visit across the dioceses of South Sudan to see how participants in a workshop titled “Reconciliation for a just and lasting peace” brought home its resolutions.
The workshop organized By Solidarity with South Sudan and Catholic Relief Services was attended by five members of each diocese in the Sudan took place in Juba in November 2010.
