Mapuordit Catholic primary and secondary schools are scheduled to reopen next week, despite of insecurity and the humanitarian crisis due to ongoing tribal clashes in the payam.

The principals of both schools sent an e-mail to Good News Radio announcing the classes start on Wednesday, March 30.

The e-mail added that due to the current unrest and displacement of people registration of students will take place at a later date.

In the same email, the principal of Comboni Secondary School, Sr. Philippa Murphy, said last Wednesday the Mapuordit apostolic community led by the parish-priest Fr. Antoine Kondo distributed blankets and mosquito nets among the displaced.

Sr. Murphy added that it was so sad to see the suffering of these poor people; many had little to eat and to make matters worse it has just started to rain and many have no shelter.

Over 35 thousand people have been displaced in Mapuordit Payam, Yirol West County, and with the schools set to reopen next Wednesday, urgent measures will have to be taken to provide shelter to the displaced who are currently staying at Mapuordit’s schools and seminary premises.
