The UN Mission in Sudan has been allowed to access areas were civilians have been affected by the on-going clashes in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states.

UNMIS reported this month that the SPLA did not allow them to access areas affected by the clashes.

Talking to SCR News, David Gressly, UNMIS regional coordinator for the south, said the army and the governor of Jonglei have given assurance to access the areas were there have been problems in the last few weeks.

He said that humanitarian assistance is being distributed in the affected areas, adding that UNMIS will move soon to Mayom County were clashes between militia forces and the SPLA took place.

Commenting on the current security situation in South Sudan, Mr. Gressly said more than three states are insecure although many parts are doing quite fine.

He explained that the insecurity is associated to the integration process.

Mr. Gressly called upon the government to find the best way of integrating the different forces and bring the clashes to an end.
