The season of Lent that started yesterday is a time for changing hearts and making reconciliation.
This is the point Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek Diocese made yesterday during the Eucharistic celebration to mark the official beginning of the period of Lent at Holy Family Cathedral in Rumbek, Good News Radio reported.Bishop Mazzolari said Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season, describing it as a time for reconciliation.
The bishop went on to identify three kinds of reconciliation presented in the scriptures of the day, starting with making peace with God.
Bishop Mazzolari encouraged the faithful to do acts of charity without parading themselves to attract attention and receive applause.
He called on the faithful to visit the sick and to pray since Lent is a time to establish and maintain a relationship of friendship with Jesus.
Bishop Mazzolari said the second kind of reconciliation is making peace with oneself by being honest and seek God’s help through the sacrament of confession, the communion, and the Way of the Cross.
The Bishop said the third kind of reconciliation is making peace with fellow human beings.
Bishop Mazzolari urged the faithful to be instruments of unity, adding that the initiative to be launched by the Church in the Sudan after Easter leading to the day of the Independence of South Sudan in July will involve prayer for unity of the people of South Sudan.
