Traders in Torit town are still refusing the One Sudanese “AG” Pound that Bank of South Sudan says is good money.

Many traders claim they are not satisfied with the publication of a public notice by the Director General of Bank of South Sudan, Mr. Othom Rago Ajak, saying the pound note that caused public alarm was genuine currency, Emmanuel Radio reported.

The public notice followed allegations of fake one pound notes in circulation in several parts of the country including Torit.

Last Friday, many traders and buyers were stranded and could not purchase goods with one pound “AG” notes as most people rejected the money fearing it was fake.

The Bank’s public notice said the notes which were presented to the Bank of South Sudan for verification were all genuine.

Mr. Ajak said the Bank of South Sudan would like to calm the fear of the public because fake money did not come to the Bank’s notice.
