Juba church choirs are practicing the national anthem as South Sudan prepares to celebrate its independent on July 9.

Medo Samuel, a member of Juba University team that composed the anthem, told SCR News yesterday in St. Teresa’s Cathedral that the composers decided to take the singing practice to the churches because the best singers always come from those choirs.

He said St. Teresa was the twelfth venue for the singing practice and All Saints Cathedral or St. Joseph will be next.

Mr. Samuel said GoSS Council of Ministers and the President’s office have approved the wording of the anthem.

He added that they recorded a sample that was sent to the president for assessment.

Thirty seven artists took part in the national anthem contest last year and the University of Juba team headed by Medo Samuel was announced the winner.
