A federal minister alerted the public that many private universities opening in Juba do not have licenses to operate and are illegal.
Federal higher education minister Peter Adwok said private universities refuse to register with the ministry because they lack academic and technical standards and their certificates will not be recognized in South Sudan or abroad.Dr. Adwok said the private universities do not follow programmes approved by the government and lecturers do not have enough qualifications while some students are enrolling without the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and that it is illegal.
The Minister concluded that the South Sudan Legislative Assembly is preparing a law to declare the unregistered private universities illegal and they will have to be closed down.
