The SPLM secretary-general announced today that the movement will split into two independent parties one in the north and the other in the south after the independence.

Pagan Amum said the SPLM political bureau that ends today in Juba agreed on a road-map to establish the two independent political parties with a shared vision of an inclusive society.

Mr. Amum said the SPLM in the North will be run by an interim leadership until it organizes a congress chaired by Malik Aggar having Abdel Aziz Adam as his deputy and Yasir Arman the secretary-general.

Mr. Amum said the SPLM will work to transform the North into a democratic, secular and multicultural state.

He added that the SPLM in South Sudan will redefine its programme and mission, advocating for a multi-party political system with periodical elections.

Mr. Amum added that the SPLM political bureau adopted South Sudan as the name for the new state.

He announced also that South Sudan will launch a new currency called Pound after the independence.
