Malakal is tranquil this morning after the last shots between Joint Integrated Unit (JIU) forces were exchanged last night.
SCR News talked with a resident over the phone who said the town is calm but full of soldiers heavily armed.Markets and shops remain closed.
On Thursday evening JIU’s members from SAF and Tanginya’s militias started fighting over the control of heavy weapons after the force disintegrates with the independence of South Sudan.
JIU commanders were ordered to relocate their heavy military gear to North Sudan.
Another source told SCR News that the troops loyal to Mr. Tanginya were separated from the northern soldiers and taken to a location in Malakal-South.
JIU barracks are in Malakia, in the North of the town.
BBC reported that at least 11 people were killed, including two children.
