The Government of South Sudan is looking into the proposal for new capital city of the new state somewhere in East Nile where Central and Eastern Equatoria border with Jonglei and Lakes states.
GoSS minister for Information Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press yesterday that the council of ministers discussed extensively the idea to build a new capital city for south Sudan.Dr. Marial said there are two alternatives.
The new capital city could be built in East Nile where Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Jonglei and Lakes states meet.
Ramshel, in Lakes state, was considered a second option.
Dr. Marial said President Salva Kiir Mayardit will appoint a ministerial committee to study the proposed locations and report back within three weeks.
The GoSS spokesperson noted that communities in those areas will be consulted and informed because they have a say in the choice.
