Ugandan nationals yesterday organized a peaceful demonstration through the streets of Rumbek against the brutal killing of a compatriot on Thursday night.

A Ugandan bobaboda rider was killed by a passenger who stole his motorbike.

Scores of men and women from Ugandan carried the body from Rumbek Hospital through Freedom Square, to the police station, from where they marched in the main streets of Rumbek, settling at a locally constructed large shelter within the town.

Lakes State Ugandan Community Chairman Charles Ntambara told Good News Radio that the march was a manifestation of the discontent about insecurity of foreigners.

He said there were similar incidences in the past and the relevant local authorities were too lenient with criminals.

He added that the criminal acts were performed by marginal members of the community and urged his compatriots not to blame the local authorities.

Ismael Akhmad, Lakes State Chairman of Northern Ugandan community, said the demonstration was aimed at making the plight of Ugandans in Sudan known to the Kampala government.

He appealed to the government to ensure that justice is done to the culprit, advocating for equality in front of the law.

One of the demonstrators, Seka Terere Abdulkadir, said security officers temporarily detained him during the late morning demonstration because he carried a placard that read “Ugandans are finished In Lakes State”.

The body of 26 year-old Maurice Emvi was taken to his native Arua District, West Nile region of Uganda, today.
