A Rumbek taxi-motorbike operator popularly known as bodaboda died at Rumbek Hospital after being attacked by a passenger.

Dr. Chan Deng Malual of Rumbek Hospital told Good News Radio that the bodaboda motorist was brought to the hospital on Thursday evening bleeding massively from neck and forearm injuries.

The doctor said efforts to keep the man alive failed and the 26-year old Ugandan citizen died some two hours later due to excessive bleeding.

Rumbek Central Police Chief Moses Mayek Dongbil Chol confirmed the incident, saying the passenger wanted to be taken from Rumbek to Runga, a three-kilometre ride.

He said that the assailant attacked the rider with a machete, stealing the motorbike and leaving him half-dead.

The fatally injured rider was taken to the hospital by security officers on patrol.

The Rumbek police Chief confirmed that the offender was arrested and the motorbike secured by his officers.

He added that the Lakes State government was taking the case seriously.

He called upon the Ugandan community to be calm as the case was being followed.

Callers from all over Lakes State to a Good News live-show condemned the incident and called upon the Sudanese people to co-exist in peace with foreigners and respect human life.

The Government of Lakes State promised a cash contribution to facilitate the transportation of the body to his final resting place in Arua District, Uganda.
