Rebels belonging to reneged commander Gatluak Gai were staging attacks in Unity State but the SPLA flushed them out of South Sudan.

SPLA spokesman Philip Aguer Panyang told SCR News that Mr. Gai’s men were trying to sabotage the referendum with ambush attacks near the border in Unity State.

He added that three days ago the rebels clashed with SPLA forces and were pushed back to Higlig, in Northern Sudan.

He accused the Khartoum government for funding and supporting Mr. Gai’s rebellion in Unity State.

Asked if the SPLA would forgive Mr. Gai if he surrendered, Mr. Aguer said GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit offered an amnesty to all the rebel leaders in South Sudan.

He added that the offer still stands but Mr. Gai so far refused to accept it.

Gatluak Gai is among several leaders who took arms against the Juba government following the April 2010 elections.
