83 PERCENT VOTED SO FAR IN THE REFERENDUM

The chairperson of the south Sudan Referendum Commission said that at least 3.2 million voted in South Sudan until yesterday, representing 83 percent of the registrants.

Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil added that 53 percent have voted in Khartoum and 91 percent in the Diaspora.

Mr. Khalil added that the referendum was very orderly, peaceful, and quiet.

He congratulated the people of South Sudan for this great achievement that Ð he said Ð meets international standards.

Counting is expected to take place today as soon as the polling centres close and results will be published in all polling centres as soon as the counting ends.

Mr. Khalil advised the people of south Sudan not to take the results of centres as final results.

The final results are expected to b announced on February 14.
